Hamamatsu City is home to foreign residents hailing from 91 different countries and regions (as of September 1, 2021). In addition, there are foreign students coming from 24 countries (speaking 23 different languages) enrolled in public schools (as of May 1, 2021). It is important for Hamamatsu City to provide learning environments and opportunities for all to learn Japanese.

Japanese Classes in Hamamatsu City

Japanese language classes are operated by two main organisations. The first is by the Hamamatsu Foreign Resident Study Support Center (U-ToC). The second are classes held by NPOs and other organizations in various locations.

Self-Study Japanese

We provide teaching materials and textbooks for those who wish to self-study at home without attending classes.

Digital Japanese Resources (for Supporters)

We provide a wide range of materials and videos that have been produced for self-study of Japanese.

HICE Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Fee Bursary Projects

HICE supports the improvement of the Japanese language skills of the next generation that will lead to overseas.
For the next generation who grew up in Japan and have connections overseas, learning Japanese will be useful for their future lives in Japan and for career advancement in their home countries.

If you pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), please apply for the examination fee bursary.
