On September 27, 2022 (Tuesday), the “R4FY 1st Japanese Language Beginner’s Class Project Work Presentation Session” was held at the Hamamatsu City Foreigner’s Learning Support Center (U-ToC).
Three learners who studied Japanese in the beginner’s class for a period of six months, starting in April, presented in Japanese using the results of surveys, interviews they carried out, and summaries on the theme of their questions about the Japanese culture and people.
The presentation titles were as follows: “Why do Japanese people like going on vacation so much?” (Minami, Vietnam), “Why are Japanese cities so clean?” (Christian, Philippines) and “Why do elderly people in Japan work so much?” (Alissa, Philippines).
Alissa used a survey and interview to ascertain that “I guessed that Japanese elderly people don’t receive a high pension, so many of them have to work, but actually, I found from my research that many older people in Japan want to be healthy both mentally and physically and teaching younger people about their life experiences is fun for them, so they continue to work. Finally, she finished up by stating “I would like to learn from the Japanese lifestyle, and I want to lead a life where I don’t give up easily or quickly”, which gained a round of applause from the 30 or so participants who attended the presentations.
An exchange party held after the presentations, providing the best learning opportunity possible for the learners, as they were able to communicate with the visitors in Japanese.
The second round of presentations by students from the second beginner class (which started in October) is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, 2023. We believe that learning about and exchanging ideas surrounding Japanese culture and people from the learners’ point of view will help participants feel more familiar with foreigners living in Hamamatsu. Please feel free to come and watch the next set of presentations!
