On August 28 (Sun), the “Hamamatsu Intercultural Festival 2022” was held at Hamamatsu Soramo Gallery Mall, featuring music and dance performances by foreign residents.
This event was held for the first time this year, succeeding the annual “Festa Samba” parade on Kajimachi-Dōri. The performers were comprised of about 80 people from six organisations, all with roots in either Brazil, the Philippines, Vietnam, Peru, Indonesia and Japan – the main nationalities that predominate in Hamamatsu.
The festival featured Taiko electrifying performances by students attending Ethnic Schools for Latin American Students and swaggy hip-hop dancing by young Filipinos. Tinikling dancing by Vietnamese exchange students showed the “power of youth”, and thanks to performances of Peruvian Marinera dancing and Indonesian traditional dance, the crowd was able to experience an “adult charm”.
Samba performances marked the grand finale! The festival was brought to life by the lively samba rhythm and dance performed by men and women of all ages. A total of roughly 3,800 people came from the city and beyond to enjoy the Festa.
