Have you ever unconsciously thought about cultures, your own and others, when you’re listening to music?
Hamamatsu City is home to approximately 26,000 foreign residents. In this session, hear stories from others regarding “music in daily life”, from people with different and similar backgrounds to your own! Listen and share your stories whilst learning and thinking about other cultures.
We will get to experience Capoeira in this session, which is a facet of Brazilian culture which intertwines music, dance, and martial arts.
Curator of the Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments Ms. Sawako Ishii, will feature in the lineup, alongside, Mr. Marlon Akahoshi and Ms. Gabrieli Matsue, both from “Nagoas Capoeira Hamamatsu,” a capoeira society in Hamamatsu, who will talk about the connection between music and capoeira, as well as music in the lifestyles of both Brazilian and Japanese lifestyles.
The event will end with the capoeira demonstration. Traditional instruments which are actually used in capoeira (such as the atabaque, and berimbau) will be played alongside the performance, for a more realistic experience. Everyone, including the participants, will be asked to form a circle and clap their hands to join in the capoeira experience!
If you are interested in musical instruments, capoeira, or different cultures, or if you would like to try and view culture through music, please consider registering for this event!
