Seminar for those involved in the support of foreign residents (Commissioned by Hamamatsu City)
The number of foreign residents living Japan declined temporarily due to COVID-19, however numbers are on the rise again.
Today, there are many foreigner residents in Japan with various backgrounds in terms of nationality, culture and religion. Amongst these, are many Indonesians and Pakistanis, who are Muslim.
In this seminar, participants will learn about the backgrounds and life beliefs of Muslims, and learn to give appropriate consideration to them in various support situations.
The latter part of this seminar will be a practical class on “Plain Japanese”.
Section 1: 13:15-14:45 Lecture (including Q&A)
What is the situation of Muslims in Japan? ~”
Lecturer: Mr. Mitsuto Ohashi (Visiting Collaborative Researcher at Aichi Prefectural University / Multicultural Affairs)
After studying Arabic at university, Mr. Ohashi stayed in Egypt for about 4 months to conduct his own private studies, after which he returned to Japan and found a job. Following his studied, he learned about Muslims living in Japan through his work, and furthered his studies in a Master’s Program at the Graduate School of International Social Development, Nihon Fukushi University (distance learning). He completed his studies in March 2020. He is the author of “Listening to the Voices of Muslims in Japan: What is the Truly Necessary ‘Consideration'” (2021, Koyo Shobo) and currently lives in Aichi Prefecture.
